Regain Your Health
Your reading this because
you've already started to investigate making a change. That's
great, you've conquered the first step; contemplation. Maybe you
dread exercise, maybe you used to love it, but have forgotten why.
Either way, the good news is that physical activity IS
ENJOYABLE!
I must admit that when I was
a teenager, I started running to stay thin. A few years ago, I
started exercising again to lose weight. However, both times I kept
at it because I started to really enjoy being active and it
actually improved the rest of my waking (and sleeping) life. It
does take a few weeks of consistent behavior to form a habit, and
this is the most challenging part of change.
Tips for Tranformation
1-Start visualizing.
This may sound
really cheesy, but I'm telling you from first hand experience, it
works wonders! Every morning before getting out of bed visualize
the details of your goal(s). Think about the definition of your leg
muscles, the way your old jeans slide on effortlessly, and how easy
it is to climb to the top of that hill. Imagine yourself strong,
smiling and full of energy. Stop complaining about being fat, or
slow, and refuse to paint that picture of yourself. That's not you
anymore.
2- Plan Ahead- Now , take that
positive image and don't let go of it. Get out your diary and make
time for it. Even 20 minutes every other day is enough to start
making great change.
3-
Don't
Punish Yourself- For the first couple of weeks, start with
small changes, but very mindful changes. Your body needs time to
adjust to new activities and avoid injury. For those who have been
previously very sedentary, walking is a great place to
start.
4-
Find
Support- We are social creatures. I would not be anywhere
near where I am today, if I had not searched and found the support
of people who had accomplished what I wanted to accomplish. If you
want to be fit, you need to surround yourself with fit people. This
is so important for keeping the fire of determination lit and
blazing.
5-
Look to
the Future- It is VITAL to look ahead. It may take several
weeks of hard mental effort to create healthy habits, and during
that time, you must constantly remind yourself of what lies ahead.
If you can do this, you can relax and enjoy the journey towards
health.
BON VOYAGE
